LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) is one of the UK’s most respected drama schools. Its exams are internationally recognised qualifications in acting, musical theatre, and public speaking.
These exams are designed to help students develop confidence, creativity, and communication skills that last a lifetime.
Students are assessed in Drama and Speech across areas such as clarity, projection, and communication. LAMDA offers a variety of disciplines including Public Speaking, Acting, Verse and Prose, and Musical Theatre. These disciplines progress through Introductory and Entry grades, moving up to GCSE equivalent levels, and then to Grades 6–8 (Bronze, Silver, and Gold), which are equivalent to A-Levels, AS Levels, and BTEC.
At Evolve Arts, we believe LAMDA examinations are a wonderful way to nurture a child’s confidence through drama, acting, and public speaking. They encourage fluent reading with clear understanding, expand vocabulary, and develop strong self-expression and communication skills. LAMDA also supports research, memory, and recall, while building resilience that lasts a lifetime.
At Evolve, we offer LAMDA classes in Acting, Musical Theatre, Public Speaking, and Group Acting. These classes give students the chance to build confidence, develop strong communication and performance skills, and prepare for their examinations. For added flexibility, our LAMDA Plus Programme combines group workshops with one-to-one sessions, available across all disciplines.
LAMDA Plus is a flexible programme at Evolve designed for students who cannot always commit to weekly classes. It combines group workshops with one-to-one sessions, giving students the chance to prepare fully for their exams while working at times that suit them. LAMDA Plus is available across all disciplines, making it an accessible option for busy families and students with varied schedules.
A LAMDA exam is made up of two main parts. The first is a performance, where the student presents either an acted monologue or a recital of verse or prose to the examiner. The second is a short conversation with the examiner, often called the theory section, which allows the student to demonstrate their understanding of the piece and their wider knowledge. The duration of each exam varies according to the grade being taken.
A Grade 6 Pass earns 12 points, while a Grade 8 Distinction awards up to 30 points, which is close to the value of an A-level. Students can also boost their overall points by taking exams across different syllabi, such as Public Speaking, Acting, or Musical Theatre.
